Legend of the Deep Filmed For First Time

Check out this article in the New York Times. Japanese researchers have filmed giant squid for the first time. They caught one for four hours and held it captive while filming it. It eventually broke free leaving an 18 foot tentacle behind. The creature of so much fascination is just as cool in real life as in imagination.

OK, I know that as a republican I'm supposed to hate wildlife.

But what the h*ll are they doing capturing a poor defenseless creature, and holding it until it goes so crazy that it breaks off an 18 FOOT part of it's body just to get away?

And why is this considered a good thing?

Sorry, I have an unnatural affinity for creatures of most kinds, even though for some reason I support putting animals in the zoo.
