Kellyanne Conway has an interesting analysis of the recent CBS poll that shows Bush's approval rating at an all-time low of 34%. While many conservatives are attacking the poll as evidence of "liberal media bias" and "faulty polling methods," Conway says not to be so quick to dismiss it.
I agree with her. We Republicans need to take a long hard look at these polls and realize exactly how deep we are in it right now. The most amazing part of the polling data is the GOP-controlled Congress' approval rating is higher among Democrats (32%) than Republicans (31%). Congressional approval among Independents is at a measly 22%. Considering the fact that it is Congress which is up for election in November, not the President, these numbers should be of particular concern.
If the Democrats take back Congress this year, it will not be a pretty sight for the President or for the GOP. It is time for Republicans to wake up and smell the minority. It is closer than we think.
