Tigers Fire Trammell
My Detroit Tigers today fired their manager, and legendary former shortstop, Alan Trammell. The Tigers lost an AL-record 119 games two years ago but bounced back last year to go 72-90, a 29-game improvement. However, after signing free agents Magglio Ordonez and Troy Percival in the offseason and being 61-62 in late August, the bottom dropped out and the Tigers finished with only 71 wins, one fewer than last year.
I love Alan Trammell, but I can't disagree with Dave Dombrowski's decision as I think we need new leadership to turn the Tigers into a contender. Seeing the rise of the White Sox and Indians this year makes it that much more important to make a change now. The noise right now is surrounding Jim Leyland, who led the Marlins to the title in 1997. We'll see.
