Addison's take on Miers

There are a lot of people who know a lot more about this nomination than me, so I'll defer to their evaluation of Ms. Miers' jurisprudence.

But there's another angle here. It seems to me that you are not just nominating a justice. You are also sending a message to young conservative thinkers about what it takes to reach the highest court in the land.

What does this nomination say?

BE QUIET.

Don't advance the conservative cause by writing terrific papers. Don't argue the conservative position by working on conservative pro bono cases. Don't speak publicly about controversial matters.

Just be quiet.

We've known this since Robert Bork.

Maybe, but I don't think we've ever seen a President make such a chicken pick when he's had control of the Senate.
